As surely as a loaned police horse bolting after the stable door's been closed, the text exchanges between David Cameron and Rebekah Brooks have started to leak.

The main revelation so far - apart from the fact that the pair signed off texts to each other with "the friendly ‘x’ preferred by many habitual phone texters" (copyright: the Daily Mail) - is that Dave apparently told Rebekah to "keep her head up".

I think rather than keep her head up she needs to desperately keep her head down
