Pregnant Woman Stabbed To Death At Home

A man is being questioned after a pregnant woman was stabbed to death in her home.

Saiba Khatoon, 26, who was expecting her second child, was found dead at her home in Kirkholt, Rochdale on Monday.

Officers were called to the scene in Darlington Road by paramedics who had been alerted after the woman's eight-year-old son ran to a neighbour's house to raise the alarm.

Police are still waiting to formally identify the victim and for the results of a post-mortem examination.

A 30-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of murder shortly before 5am on Tuesday, is still in police custody.

Locals have said Ms Khatoon, believed to have been a care worker, was a happy and friendly young mother.

Chief Inspector Mark Bell, of Greater Manchester Police's Rochdale division, said: "A young woman has tragically been killed and we have officers supporting her loved ones at this difficult time.

"I want to reassure the community that a team of detectives have been working tirelessly throughout the night and have acted quickly to make an arrest."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
