Five Indian Premier League Players Suspended Pending Corruption Inquiry (VIDEO)

WATCH: Five IPL Players Suspended

Indian cricket officials have suspended five IPL players pending an inquiry corruption.

A sting by undercover television reporters appeared to show the cricketers verbally agreeing to spot-fixing in matches, while some allege team owners often paid them large sums of money illegally.

The suspended players are TP Sudhindra (Team Hyderabad), Mohnish Mishra (Team Pune), Amit Yadav (Team Punjab), Shalabh Shrivastava (Team Punjab) and Abhinav Bali, who doesn't have an IPL contract. All of them said the channel misrepresented meetings with an "agent" in a Delhi hotel.

One player has already claimed the allegations made against him are false and plans to sue the TV channel, after footage was broadcast on Monday night.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief N Srinivasan said: "We have no tolerance towards any form of corruption.

"We will ensure that the integrity of the game is protected. BCCI believes in the integrity of the game."

Former ICC anti-corruption chief Ravi Sawani will lead the inquiry into "the involvement of players in illegal activities or activities against the interests of the BCCI and the game", the organisation confirmed.

These allegations are the most serious to hit the lucrative tournament since IPL founder Lalit Modi was removed from all involvement in Indian cricket amid allegations of corruption and nepotism in two years ago. He denied all allegations of wrongdoing.

And last year three Pakistani players were found guilty of spot-fixing during a Test match against England in 2010.
