A seven-year-old boy has lost his battle against a rare cancer called neuroblastoma.
The Lewis Mighty Fund Facebook page announced the news of his death this morning with the statement: “Lewis became an angel at 2.30am this morning. He was very peaceful.”
Just a day ago Lewis’s mother Jaime wrote on the page: “Lewis remains comfy at present… sadly his pain relief has been increased. He is unable to talk to me now to tell me if he is in pain. I feel so useless. He’s so tired and needs to be free now. No mother should EVER witness her baby like this.”
Lewis, of Derby, was diagnosed with stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma at the age of just three.
The youngster underwent extensive chemotherapy, major surgery, a stem cell transplant and two doses of extremely high internal radiation.
Lewis’s plight touched the hearts of many with celebrities including Piers Morgan, Dermot O'Leary and Gary Barlow voicing support for him. Prayers, vigils and even a Chinese lantern event were held in his home county to pay tribute to the youngster's bravery, This Is Derbyshire reported.
In 2010 Lewis and his family were featured on Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire show. Lewis and his family were visited by self-made millionaire Paul Ragan who donated £50,000 towards the little boy’s treatment.
