Energy Minister Charles Hendry Accidentally Sits On Ed Davey's Lap In Commons

'The Humour Was Because I Inadvertently Sat On The Secretary Of State'

Being grilled by MPs in the House of Commons can sometimes be a gruelling task for cabinet ministers, but at least they can rely on their colleagues not to sit on them. Usually.

Lib Dem MP Tessa Munt was reduced to a fit of giggles on Thursday when Tory energy minister Charles Hendry forgot to look behind him before sitting back down on the green benches - or rather onto the lap Lib Dem energy secretary Ed Davey.

Munt, unable to get her question to the minister out due to laughter Speaker John Bercow intervened to ask what the problem was.

"Was it something I said?" he asked. "I hope not."

Having leaped off his bosses lap, Hendry stood to explain to the Speaker why MPs were all laughing.

"Mr Speaker, the humour was because I inadvertently sat on the secretary of state which shows our commitment to work seamlessly together in this coalition," he said.
