Spain Calls For Calm After It Auctions Off Antonio Banderas

The Spanish government called for calm today after it sold off one of its biggest assets, Antonio Banderas.

It appears that the auctioning of the Puss In Boots and The Mask of Zorro star - worth $30 million - has enabled the government to raise the funds needed as a result of the Eurozone crisis.

However, there are fears that the sale of one of the country's most valuable commodities will lead to a run on other Spanish stars - with ordinary Spaniards now rushing to withdraw their investments in Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem and Pedro Almodóvar.

In a statement to the Madrid stock market, Spain's finance minister Juan Dayiwillquitthiscrazycountry said: "Our citizens can be absolutely calm about the savings they have deposited in all our stars. Especially Penélope, who's working on the new Ridley Scott movie."

Spain's move is already having repercussions in Greece, however. Ministers there are now discussing the possibility of alleviating the country's debt crisis by selling off Nana Mouskouri, whose net worth is an estimated $280 million.
