Adele Vogue Cover Was One Of the Magazine's 'Worst Sellers'

She might be one of the most successful singers in the world right now but Adele isn't such a hit with the fash pack.

The Brit singer graced the cover of fashion bible Vogue last October but the magazine's editor has revealed it was one of the publication's worst ever sellers.

Speaking to Vogue.co.uk, Alexandra Shulman revealed that despite Adele becoming one of the most famous women in the world, she was a turn off for readers.

"Music stars haven't sold at all well. Adele is the most popular woman in the world, but one of the worst sellers we've ever had.

"I find there has to be a relationship with the person on the cover that goes beyond how they look. Our most successful cover was the millennium issue - which didn't have anyone on it, but acted like a mirror so you could see your own reflection!"

She also confirmed that the Duchess of Cambridge had been approached to appear on the cover of the fashion mag but has yet to accept the offer.

Princess Diana appeared on four Vogue covers before her death in 1997.

I think the editor pretty much summed up the readers of Vogue by pointing out that they would not purchase the magazine when it featured one of the most successful and talented women around, but snapped it up when they could see their own reflections in it. Why is anyone surprised that the readers of Vogue are inane and vacuous?

To get her full picture they had to use pages 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8, agree with comments by Flinglebunt

and you, well you cannot spell so I am unsure as to the value of your opinion. Does the LOL signify that you only find yourself amusing or is it an obvious direction for us to find you so. Personally I do not.

I'd love to see how you would attempt to spell a six letter word.

Of course it would be. have you ever seen anyone reading vogue who is normal/ the correct weight or they are usually a low class WAG wannabee?

Looks like a cover for 'Woman's Own' or 'The People's Friend'.

Maybe people dont have as much money to waste now, buying crap.

Possibly because she dares to not adhere to the size-0 Barbie-a-like template which such publications as FHM constantly tell us are attractive? Or because she rose to fame by talent as opposed to releasing sex tapes and exposing herself at every possible camera? I'm not a fan of Adele's style of music but I do respect her for the fact she has on-stage talent rather than back-stage...

a) it's not a very good cover, and not just because of the 'star'. b) just look at the other stories: "the arrival of the super-knit", "the ultimate Essex girl". I'm surprised anyone bought it.

Thats the first thing I looked at. You are soooo right. Crap content and nothing to do with the pic. I suppose being Vogue, they need a scapegoat, it couldn't possibly be the editors bad job.

Agreed the first thing you read is about the super knit because of its positioning. The orange 'Adoring Adele' even though its in big type blends in with her hair too much.

It is never the editor's fault despite the fact that they oversee everything from shoot to final content. But I would assume just like Men's health , singers just don't move copies of those top of the shelf mags. They have too little backstory to justify the multiple spreads.

It's not a flattering picture. I've seen better cover photos of Adele.

They probably had Mc donalds and Tacobell coupons with this issue . They made her look like a donut .

So why the suprise ?????

Great technique, Alexandra. Responsible for editing a bad issue? Can't be my fault! Who to blame to save my neck? Why, Adele of course! Phew, that was close.
