An OAP died after his mobility scooter plunged into the River Thames.

The accident happened near Abingdon Bridge in Bridge Street, Abingdon, on Saturday afternoon.

He was pulled from the water by a passing boater, according to BBC News.

The unnamed man was then taken by air ambulance – which was forced to land on the nearby Hales Meadow cricket pitch – to John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford, where he died.

The police told The Huffington Post UK that they are treating the incident as unexplained and are investigating how the mobility scooter ended up in the water.
