Queen Lessons For Clueless Pupils In Diamond Jubilee Run-Up

Queen Lessons For Clueless Kids

Pupils are being taught lessons on the Queen after their knowledge about the royal family was described as "shocking".

Students from Tower Hamlets, in the East End of London, are being briefed on the monarch in the run-up to the Diamond Jubilee. Reverend Gordon Warren, rector at St Anne's Limehouse church, launched a competition for local primary school children to educate them about the Queen's reign.

"The idea came from my wife who was working as a senior teaching assistant during the Golden Jubilee," he said. "I was shocked when she told me how little the children knew about the monarch. Many of them had English as a second language and felt the Queen wasn’t relevant to them.

According to the pastor, some children were unaware the Queen was Prince William's grandmother.

The pupils were encouraged to write a poem or draw a picture depicting the Queen's reign and will find out who the winner is in the next couple of days.
