'The Great Gatsby' Trailer: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire & Jay Z, In Baz Luhrmann's Film

FIRST LOOK: 'The Great Gatsby' Trailer

The Great Gasby trailer has arrived, and the film's director Baz Luhrmann has already proved he's got a few tricks to bring F Scott Fitzgerald's Golden Age morality tale into the 21st century.

The clip, set firmly in the decadence of 1922 New York, is accompanied by Jay Z and Kane West's very 21st century No Church in the Wild, which seems entirely fitting and proves that some things, like the love and betrayal of the story, never do change.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the enigmatic millionaire of the title, Tobey Maguire as the all-seeing Nick Carraway, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan and Joel Edgerton as her brooding husband Tom.

At first glance, Baz has kept many of the themes of the 1974 original intact - Carey Mulligan looks as fragile as Mia Farrow, there are the highly-anticipated first glances of the aloof Gatsy, a stranger at his own party, and best of all - he's included a proper homage to the 1974 version with a colourful scene, where DiCaprio gets to throw all his shirts around, just as Robert Redford did before him.

Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby will be in cinemas on Christmas day 2012.
