British girls are having sex earlier than ever, according to experts.
The charity Family Lives believes the average age when girls lose their virginity is now 15 – a year before the legal age of consent.
Their researchers found some shocking examples of underage sexualised behaviour in the playground, including a 12-year-old girl performing oral sex on a 14-year-old boy and incidents of boys pinning down girls and groping them.
Family Lives director Claire Walker said: "The evidence suggests that the average age at which British girls are having sex is going down. In 1990 it was 17, in 2000 it was 16. They are now doing the research for 2010 and the expectation is that it will be 15."
