21 Legionnaires Cases Confirmed After Deadly Outbreak In Scotland

There are now 21 confirmed cases of Legionnaires' disease following a deadly outbreak, Scottish Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon has said.

Another 19 people are suspected of having the illness in the Lothian health board area but no more fatalities have occurred since Tuesday when one man died, Nicola Sturgeon said.

Twelve of the 21 patients are in intensive care, two have been discharged and the others are either being treated in hospital or in the community.

One man died and 15 other people are in a critical condition in hospital following the outbreak in Edinburgh.

Dr Duncan McCormick, consultant in public medicine and chairman of the incident management team at NHS Lothian, warned earlier on Wednesday that it takes up to two weeks for the disease to show significant symptoms.
