Simon Cowell Launches Food Contest

Simon Cowell is launching a new reality TV contest all about food.

Food Glorious Food will see budding chefs preparing home-cooked dishes as part of a nationwide search to find Britain's best grub.

The talent show winner will scoop a £20,000 cash prize, and their meal will be sold in Marks & Spencer.

The Britain's Got Talent boss is clearly chasing another ratings war with his foodie venture as he wants his new ITV1 series to rival the BBC's hit Masterchef.

He said: "I love my mum's roast potatoes. Shepherd's pie, Cornish pasties - I want stuff like that on the show."

The first round of regional heats will get started in July, and the cooks who make it through to the semi-finals will be tested in a series of challenges.

A source told The Sun: "We're tapping into the Jubilee spirit with a Best of British theme. It's open to all ages - from a granny with Cornish pasties to a youngster who has the ultimate recipe for jellied eels. We're looking for characters too - with the 'likeability factor'."

The X Factor presenter Dermot O'Leary is reportedly being considered for a hosting role.
