Euro 2012: Search For Missing Irish Fan James Nolan In Poland Enters Third Day

Search For Missing Fan Enters Third Day

The parents of an Irish football fan who has been missing for three days in Poland have expressed their deep 'concern' as to his whereabouts.

James Nolan, an engineering student, was last seen close to 1am in the Polish town of Bydgoszcz on Sunday before being separated from his friends.

The 21-year-old was visiting Poland to watch the Republic of Ireland play at the Euro Championship tournament and had attended the team's opening game against Croatia in Poznan, before travelling to Gdansk for their second match against Spain.

Travelling with friends back to Poznan for their final game, Monday night's 2-0 loss to Italy, the group stopped in Bydgoszcz for the night, where, after a night out, he lost contact with his friends.

"We were talking to him on Saturday night and he was delighted to have passed his exams and was in great form. He said he would call Father's Day," Mr Nolan said. "I sent him phone credit as he was running low. He had been keeping in contact quite a lot so we are very concerned."

Meanwhile, RTE News reports that the Irish ambassador to Poland, Eugene Hutchinson, is en route to the town where James disappeared to work with the Polish authorities and meet with the missing man's friends, who are still in the town searching for James.
