Mobility Scooter Driver Killed In Bus Crash

A man driving a mobility scooter has died after suffering multiple injuries in a crash with a bus.

Staffordshire Police said the elderly victim was pronounced dead after being airlifted to hospital following the accident in the Stretton area of Burton-upon-Trent.

The driver of the bus, a man aged in his 60s, and his passengers were not injured in the collision, which occurred in Princess Way at about 12.30pm.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "Crews arrived to find a man on a disability scooter and a bus that had been in a serious collision.

"The man was airlifted to University Hospital North Staffordshire, where a trauma team were on standby.

"Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance crews at the scene and the trauma team at hospital, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead shortly after arriving at hospital."
