Apple has quietly removed a claim from its website that its computers do not get viruses.
A recent wave of virus attacks against Macs, including the Flashback botnet have apparently forced it to reconsider its message.
Previously Apple boasted that its Mac OS X operating system "doesn't get PC viruses".
And while it still claims that safety is "built in" to OS X, the message is in contrast to previous claims of virtual invulnerability.
The new version of OS X, Mountain Lion, will include a new 'Gatekeeper' app which allows users to restrict what Apps are installed on the system.
In a recent report, Russian anti-virus software maker said that at least 550,000 Macs were infected with viruses.
