Danny Murphy has signed for Championship club Blackburn Rovers on a two-year deal after he was released by Fulham.

The former Liverpool midfielder, 35, made 210 appearances for the Cottagers and scored 28 goals after he arrived from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2007.

Murphy told the Rovers website: "I am absolutely delighted to be signing for Blackburn Rovers.

"When meeting Steve Kean I soon realised the passion, enthusiasm and ambition he has for the club and how much he wants the team to bounce straight back up to the Premier League.

"Now, my new challenge is to help Blackburn get promoted and repay the manager's and the owners' faith in me."

Blackburn were relegated after 11 years in the top flight in May as they endured a troubled season on and off the pitch, with Kean and the club's Venky's owners coming under intense criticism from supporters.
