Breaking News! The US Supreme Court has struck down President Obama's Affordable Care Act as unconstitutional. Wait. What's that?
On Thursday afternoon Fox News and CNN reported the justices' that sit in America's highest court had torpedoed the key legislative achievement of the president's first term.
Only, it hadn't. The court had actually done the precise opposite and upheld the law.
Over at CNN its website reported that the ruling overturned the requirement that Americans must buy health insurance.
"The decision will affect you, generations of Americans and this fall's presidential race," it said.
To be fair to both broadcasters the decision was a surprise, and they would have had two versions of the story ready to go. Unfortunately they both pressed the wrong button.
