Shard To Light Up London In Dramatic Inauguration Light Show

The developers behind London - and western Europe's - tallest building have announced they will inaugurate its completion with a laser light show unlike anything ever seen in the capital.

On 5 July at 10.15pm 12 lasers and 30 searchlights will dramatically light up the landmark.

The lasers will join the 309-metre-high tower with 15 of London's other landmarks, including Tower Bridge, the London Eye and the Gherkin.

The spectacle will be accompanied by the London Philharmonic Orchestra performing Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man and the Finale from Stravinsky's Firebird Suite.

The show will also be broadcast on the Shard's website and Facebook page.

Tickets to see the view from the top of the Shard will go on sale on 6 July, though the viewing platform will not open until February 2013.
