Driver Killed In Test Track Crash

A driver has been killed and four others injured in a single-car crash at one of Europe's leading vehicle testing tracks.

Bedfordshire Police said the driver, a 47-year-old man from Swindon, Wiltshire, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at the Millbrook proving ground, near Marston Moretaine.

A police spokesman said the incident, which happened shortly after 11.30am today, was being investigated by a specialist collision investigation unit.

None of the passengers travelling in the car - three men and a woman who were taken to Bedford Hospital - suffered life-threatening injuries.

The spokesman said: "Collision investigation officers from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit have carried out a full forensic examination of the scene and are being assisted by the Health and Safety Executive.

"Colleagues from the East of England Ambulance Service and Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended."

The family of the victims have been informed of the tragedy, but the driver has yet to be named by police.
