Airbus: Planes Could Be 'Printed' To Order As Soon As 2050

Airbus have released a video detailing their vision for the future of air travel - including the possibility of planes produced by 3D printers.

The Future By Airbus programme is a long-standing push by the aviation company to imagine what international flight will be like in 2050.

Airbus designer Bastian Schafer said in the video that travellers are looking for flight to be more sustainable, quicker and more relaxing - while remaining low cost.

The video, produced for the Farnborough air show, shows a plane with larger windows, information overlays and 'morphing' seats that respond to passengers' needs and even 'harvest' their body heat.

And according to Forbes, the planes could also be "printed" to order with the use of massive automated factories.

Forbes said the printer would be as large as an aircraft hangar, and would use "additive layer manufacturing" to create lighter, stronger planes.

Take a look at the vision in the video, above.
