More than 600 branches of Lloyds TSB are to be taken over by the Co-operative, a landmark deal greeted with delight, moral indignation, and confusion.

"Really hope my Branch of Lloyds doesn't get passed onto the Co-op?! #CrapWithFood" tweeted one confused person who banked with Lloyds.

Another anxious bank account holder asked: "what if you bank with Lloyds and dont WANT to change to co-op??? "

As a former employee, customer & shareholder I am NOT impressed. Customer choice? Then let US choose if we want to move.

Lloyds said there would be no changes for the 4.8 million customers affected by the deal until next year.

Those customers will be told about the changes and clients of the branches being sold will be given the chance to transfer to the Co-op or remain with Lloyds.

However many voiced their delight at the deal on Twitter, expressing hopes that the Co-operative's expansion would signal a more moral financial institution.

As both HSBC and Barclays remain dogged by global scandals, many praised the "ethical and excellent" Co-op.

Now Co-Op bank, untainted by scandal, will have a proper branch network, I'll move my business acct from Lloyds and personal acct from HSBC.
