Body Found In Quarry Following Search For Missing Boy In West Midlands

Body Found In Search For Missing Boy In Quarry

Emergency services searching a quarry for a missing 14-year-old boy have found a body.

West Midlands Police said the body of a young male was recovered from the water in the quarry, in Lower Gornal in Dudley, West Midlands on Wednesday evening.

The body has been removed from the area of water, which is close to the Crooked House Pub, and the coroner will be informed.

The teenager has not been formally identified at this stage.

Officers, who were called by the ambulance service to a report of a teenage boy having gone missing, quickly realised the boy had fallen into the water earlier, the force spokeswoman said.

The area around the quarry was sealed off while the search for the missing teenager was carried out but proved to be "challenging" because of accessibility at the site and the zero visibility of the water, a force spokeswoman said.

Fire service officers used a dinghy to search the area of water where the boy was last seen and the police helicopter was called to help the search operation using its on-board thermal imaging equipment.

Police have appealed to anyone who may have information about the incident to contact them.

The force spokeswoman said: "It is believed there were a large number of youngsters at the quarry this afternoon and police would like to hear from anyone who hasn't already spoken to officers to contact them."
