Christian Bale has paid a visit to victims of the Dark Knight Rises shooting in Aurora.

The actor, who portrayed Batman in all three of Christopher Nolan’s films, spent nearly three hours chatting with those who had been injured in the attack. He was accompanied by his wife Sibi Blazic.

“Mr Bale is there as himself, not representing Warner Brothers,” a representative for the studio told the Denver Post.

“I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”

On the day of the shooting, Carey Rottman (pictured above) posted this Facebook status: "Shot in the leg at Batman. Where is he when you need him. Please pray for everyone there."

James Holmes, the man suspected of carrying out the attack, appeared in court on Monday for an arraignment hearing.

Sporting dyed orange hair, he appeared somewhat dazed, occasionally nodding his head and rolling his eyes. He is expected to face at least 12 charges of first degree murder.

No bail was granted and formal charges will be filed against him on Monday.
