Afternoon to all Huffington Post readers. In short today is a big day. Actually, it's the biggest of all days as the eyes of the world are on London for the final countdown to the start of the 2012 Olympics.
We'll be live blogging the entire live event here and tweeting from @huffpostuk with Olympic sized efforts from HuffPostUK's deputy news editor @paulvale, executive editor @hullstephen and picture editor @elliotwagland.
Please get involved in the conversation and we hope you enjoy.

Still no word on who will be lighting the cauldron at the end of the event. It can't be the Queen - she's had her moment. It can't be McCartney - he's on the piano. It can't be Daley Thompson - he's got a moustache.
Any thoughts? We're running out of Brits...
