Twitter took unprecedented action yesterday by suspending the accounts of all those who were critical of Trevor Nelson's coverage of the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony.

While users began by simply venting their frustration at the commentary - with tweets such as "Trevor Nelson - WTF?!" and 'OMG! What is Trevor Nelson going on about?!" - they quickly became angrier in tone ("Trevor Nelson, you utter, utter bastard") and ultimately resulted in Trevor Nelson's private email being released (seriouslywhogavehimthisjob@bbc.co.uk).

All the accounts - estimated to be at least half of Twitter - have now been suspended.

Fortunately, Trevor Nelson was unavailable for comment.
