Cyclist Dies In 'Olympic Bus' Crash

A cyclist was killed tonight after being hit by an "Olympic bus", Scotland Yard said.

The man, who is believed to be aged around 30, was struck by the vehicle in Ruckholt Road at the junction with the A12 in Hackney, east London, at around 7.40pm.

A police spokesman said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened close to the edge of the Olympic Park in Stratford.

A police statement said: "At 19.42hrs on Wednesday, 1 August, police were called to a collision between a coach and a pedal cyclist at Ruckholt Road (A106) junction with the East Cross Route (A12).

"Police and London Ambulance Service, including air ambulance, attended the scene.

"The cyclist, a man believed to be approximately 30 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene at 20.14hrs.

"The collision is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police's Traffic Investigation Unit."

A spokesman for Games organiser Locog said it was working with the police to establish what happened but had nothing further to add.
