Helen Skelton Leaves Twitter, Blaming Her 'Not Very Thick Skin'

Blue Peter Presenter Becomes Latest Celeb To Leave Twitter Over Abuse

Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton has decided to leave the microblogging site Twitter, claiming her "not very thick skin" meant she could not deal with the site any more.

Skelton may have become the most recent high-profile Twitter user to receive abusive tweets from fellow users, after a man was arrested for sending abusive tweets at Olympic diver Tom Daley.

"Turns out I don't have very thick skin after all so I am closing my twitter account. Enjoy the games. Signing off, skelts x", the 29-year-old wrote on the site, choosing not to elaborate on the matter.

Skelton received dozens of messages of support from her followers, while others expressed their surprise at the fact that a harmless character such as Skelton could be on the receiving end of unpleasant messages.

In addition to presenting the long-running children's show and Countryfile on the BBC, Skelton has taken part in a number of fundraising treks for Sport Relief, run an ultra-marathon in Namibia and kayaked the Amazon.

On Wednesday, a Welsh Premier League footballer was suspended from the team following homophobic tweets sent to Daley, the day after a 17-year-old was arrested for sending threatening messages to the British diver.
