We all know how much time and dedication Olympic athletes put into their sports.

While from a distance it might look elegant, effortless and glamourous, a closer inspection reveals the bizarre and often embarrassing faces pulled in the pursuit of brilliance.

The women's artistic team gymnastic event is possibly one of the best examples of when gold can turn into gurning.
