Boy Hospitalised After Four-Day Modern Warfare 3 Marathon

Boy In Hospital With 'Severe Dehydration' After Marathon Gaming Session

A 15-year-old boy collapsed after playing an Xbox shooter for four days straight.

Tyler Rigby, who lives in Columbus, Ohio, was hospitalised after the marathon session playing Modern Warfare 3.

According to local America TV station WCMH, Rigby was severely dehydrated after failing to drink enough water during the four days he was playing the game.

"I thought he was going to die," the boy's mother, said.

Jennifer Thompson, the boy's aunt, told the TV station: “It’s like he was looking at me but he wasn’t there."

She added that "I heard a thump and I looked over and he just fell".

The boy was treated in hospital but is now expected to make a recovery.

His Xbox days are over, however - his mother said she had thrown it away after the incident.

Rigby's collapse is just the latest in a long string of reported illnesses and even deaths suffered by video game addicts.

In July it was reported that a Taiwanese gamer died after a marathon 40-hour session playing the RPG game Diablo III.

Blizzard, the makers of Diablo III, said at the time that "while we recognise that it's ultimately up to each individual or their parent or guardian to determine playing habits, we feel that moderation is clearly important, and that a person's day-to-day life should take precedence over any form of entertainment."

Good advice.
