Nasa 'Moon Lander' Explodes During Test Flight (VIDEO)

WATCH: Nasa Moon Lander Explodes In Test Flight

Nasa is celebrating a lot of success this week after it landed the Curiosity rover on Mars - but not everything is going to plan.

A test of a new Moon Lander prototype ended in near disaster after it exploded shortly after takeoff.

No one was injured in the incident, but it will be seen as a setback.

The 1,750-pound Morpheus lander had made several successful test flights attached to a crane before the latest experiment at the Kennedy Space Centre.

The video posted by Nasa showed the vehicle lifting into the air and exploding at around six minutes in.

"Failures such as these were anticipated prior to the test, and are part of the development process for any complex spaceflight hardware," Nasa said in a statement.
