If there is ever another national event where we need to use British music, please, please, please no more "original" artists. I'm quite happy for proper actors to speak Shakespeare's words and for proper singers to sing George Michael/The Who/The Beatles/Spice Girls/etc. songs.

If you really where bored, disappointed why not turn it off or change channel?

Hmm.... like the Curate's egg, it was good in places. The light show was superb, very effective and I liked how performers got to be transported round the stadium rather than stuck in one place, allowing everyone a chance to see them at closer range.

I would have preferred The Stones, Bowie, Clapton, John to some of the more vapid performers.
Not a patch on the Opening Ceremony but I think the athletes had fun. They seemed to be happy and enjoying being together so that's fine by me.
Maybe we got away with it.

Overall, I think we did a great job but it grieves me to see the muscling in now of Cameron et al.

The closing ceremony was everything we were terrified the opening ceremony would be! :D
Hilariously, bafflingly awful!

It looked like every ounce of creativity, talent and money went into the AMAZING opening Ceremony which is probably as it should be!

Exceptions: Madness, Elbow, Queen and The Who- all very appropriate and excellent.

But as one of the above tweets say, the rest was like a elaborate Arts Council Application!

But it doesnt really matter! The athletes had a great time. And the Stadium looked magnificent from above.

Plus, the fabulous cringe-factor of the closing ceremony allows us to ease back into being moany, snarky and cynical!
The Olympics are over people, the truce has come to an end. Let real life RE-COMMENCE!

A great closing?? you have got to be kidding,spice girls???? some rapper??? a bunch of plonkers I have never heard of, george michael???

John Lennon should have also added to his song “Imagine there's no Whiners, Whingers, Moaners and Groaners” ..The Olympics was Brilliant, Great Britain did a wonderful Job... from start to finish.. I enjoyed every moment of it... Londoners should be proud.. BUT You can please some people Sometime BUT you can't please all the People all the time...

A word to England from someone the U.S. Your country put on a fabulous Olympics. The venues were beautiful and beautifully maintained. Your opening and closing ceremonies were lovely and entertaining, great visuals. Security was excellent but I knew it would be and it was understated. Thanks for the invite, nicely done!

I thought the closing ceremony was great! : )

I'd rather watch a cricket match.
