Premier League Opening Games: Tottenham's Jurgen Klinsmann Takes A Dive At Sheffield Wednesday

WATCH: Jurgen Takes A Dive Against Wednesday

Tottenham Hotspur's brand of football in the 1994/95 Premiership season was as suicidal for their goalkeeper as it was superb to watch. They laid down a marker with their attacking-yet-porous style on the opening day against Sheffield Wednesday, where new signing Jurgen Klinsmann would gain immediate cult status.

The Famous Five (Teddy Sheringham, Nick Barmby, Darren Anderton, Ilie Dumitrescu and Klinsmann) ran riot, but so did Wednesday during a barnstorming clash on an overcast August day as Spurs edged out the Owls 4-3.

Wednesday fans welcomed Klinsmann with signs depicting Olympic diving scores. So after netting a debut goal with a powerful header, he charged towards the touchline and threw himself to the turf in celebration. Who said the Germans had no sense of humour?

His delirious team-mates piled on top of him and so began a season-long love affair between Spurs supporters and their Volkswagen Beetle-driving striker.
