Posh And Becks Gag Voted Funniest Joke Of Edinburgh Fringe

Beckhams Gag Is Edinburgh Fringe's Funniest Joke

The lines are now closed. The votes have been counted and verified. And we can now reveal that the funniest joke at this year's Edinburgh Fringe is... a quick quip about David and Victoria Beckham, courtesy of Canadian comic Stewart Francis...

That joke in full? "You know who really gives kids a bad name? Posh and Becks."

Francis's gag topped the poll of 3,000 festival-goers by TV channel Dave - after a shortlist of 10 funnies had been drawn up by comedy critics.

As Dave's general manager Steve North said: "Stewart Francis is a very worth winner and with his droll quip has proved himself to be kind of the one-liners."

Want to cast your eyes over the other jokes that made the shortlist? Be our guest...

Tim Vine: "Last night, me and my girlfriend watched three DVDs back to back. Luckily, I was the one facing the telly."

Will Marsh: "I was raised as an only child, which really annoyed my sister."

Rob Beckett: "You know you're working class when your TV is bigger than your bookcase."

Chris Turner: "I'm good friends with 25 letters of the alphabet. I don't know why."

Tim Vine (again!): "I took part in the sun-tanning Olympics. I just got bronze."

George Ryegold: "Pornography is often frowned upon, but that's because I'm concentrating."

Stewart Francis (again!): "I saw a documentary about how ships are kept together. Riveting."

Lou Sanders: "I waited an hour for a starter so I complained: 'It's not rocket salad'."

Nish Kumar: "My mum's so pessimistic that if there was an Olympics for pessimism, she wouldn't fancy her chances."
