Boy, 14, Faces Trial For Homeless Man Murder In Liverpool

A 14-year-old boy is due to appear in court on Saturday charged with the murder of a homeless man who was found dead outside a Liverpool supermarket.

Police believe Kevin Bennett was sleeping rough when he was set upon by a group of youths in the Walton area of Liverpool early last Friday morning.

The 53-year-old was discovered outside an Iceland store on Walton Road with extensive injuries to his face and body nearly three hours after the assault, police said.

Mr Bennett was taken to hospital in a critical condition before dying on Thursday.

A post mortem found he died as a result of medical complications caused by an assault.

Merseyside Police have said a 14-year-old boy from Walton was charged with murder last night. He was originally arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of assault.

He will appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court later on Saturday.

Four other teenagers, aged 14, 15, 16 and 17, who have been arrested in connection with Mr Bennett's death remain in custody.
