WATCH: Galloway Aplogises For Calling Twitter User A 'Window Licker'

George Galloway has apologised for offending disabled people after he called another Twitter user a "window licker".

In a YouTube video posted on Wednesday, the Respect MP said he did not know the term was an offensive term for people with disabilities.

"It's clear that by being drawn into dialogue with a moron I have inadvertently caused a great deal of upset to the parents of disabled children, disabled people themselves and those capmpaging and raising funds and awareness on their behalf, it would bever knowingly be my intention to do so."

He added: "When I left Scotland many years ago the term I used on Twitter meant 'moron' and when i used it I too meant 'moron'."

On Sunday he wrote to @Hawfa: "you badly need medical help son. Will decent Rangers fans please substitute this windae-licker."

In his apology video Galloway said he was motivated to hit out at the Twitter user because they were a "bigoted sectarian Rangers supporter who had been relentlessly taunting me on a sectarian basis."

"I foolishinly wrestled with a chimney sweep and as we all know you can't wrestle with a chimney sweep and come out clean," he said. "Lesson learned."

Galloway's comments came just days after he caused outrage by suggesting Julian Assange's alleged crimes did not “constitute rape”

"I mean not everybody needs to be asked prior to each insertion. Some people believe that when you go to bed with somebody, take off your clothes, and have sex with them and then fall asleep, you're already in the sex game with them," he said.

Galloway apologised for his comments about disabled people while on what he described as the "Indonesian leg" of his wedding.

In a sign the MP is unlikely to let the controversy over his remarks dampen down his famous rhetoric he said: "Thanks to those who have sent their good wishes and to the haters in all their malignancy on Twitter and elsewhere, eat your hearts out."
