A man accused of cooking a live hamster will appear in court on Thursday.

James White, 21, of Popes Head Court, off Market Street, York, was arrested in connection with the death of an animal earlier this year and prosecuted by the RSPCA.

He is charged with "causing unnecessary suffering to an adult female Syrian hamster by subjecting her to hyperthermia" on or around February 4.
