Man Ray: Legendary Photographer To Star At National Portrait Gallery

Photography Legend Man Ray To Be Remembered In London

Legendary photographer Man Ray is to be the focus of a major new show at London's National Portrait gallery next February.

The exhibition, called Man Ray Portraits, will be the first to focus solely on Man Ray's iconic portraiture, bringing a number of photographs which have never been seen before in the UK.

The American photographer made his name shooting his glamourous contemporaries in 1920s Paris. The likes of Picasso, fellow photographer Lee Miller, dancer Helen Tamaris and actress Catherine Deneuve were all immortalised in Man Ray's unique style.

The innovative photographer experimented so much with the form that his works became known as 'Rayographs', which he created while developing the process of solarisation - a technique where the image appears in negative light to the original.

Yes, the show's not opening until February next year, but we're excited - not least because we have a sneak peak of what's going to be on offer in our gallery below.
