Sergio Aguero Committed To Manchester City After Saying He Would Have Signed For Real Madrid

Agüero Atones For Real Gaffe

Sergio Agüero has swiftly moved to reaffirm his commitment to Manchester City after he said on Tuesday night he would have signed for Real Madrid had the Spanish club been interested in buying him last year.

Agüero, who is fit again after sustaining a knee injury on the opening day of the season, was an unused substitute for City as they succumbed to a 3-2 loss at the Santiago Bernabéu in their first Champions League fixture.

The Argentine, who spent five years with Atletico Madird before he was sold to the Citizens for £38m last year, however took the opportunity to tell Spanish journalists of his desire to have stayed in the Spanish capital.

"If Real Madrid had been interested in me, then I would be here," Aguero said. "I had no option but to join City.

"I want to take this opportunity to refute the information where I supposedly said that I would never play for Real Madrid because I played at Atletico. It was published in an English newspaper."

Agüero, 24, went on to stress he is "not thinking about anything else", but has evidently deemed it prudent to reassure City supporters he is happy playing for the club.
