Woman Detained Under Mental Health Act Over Baby Remains

Detectives investigating the remains of a newborn baby found on Tooting Bec Common have arrested a woman.

The 36-year-old was arrested on suspicion of concealing a birth after police were informed of human remains found in the popular park.

The baby is thought to have been born two weeks ago and is white. However the gender has not been ascertained.

The post-mortem, which took place on 12 September, was unable to ascertain a cause of death.

The woman has been taken to a south London police station and subsequently detained for a period of four weeks under the Mental Health Act.
