Chelsea made a stuttering start to the defence of their Champions League title as Juventus came from 2-0 down to earn a draw at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues' prodigious Brazilian recruit Oscar starred for the home side as he scored twice on his first start after signing for £25m from Internacional in the summer.

Although his first goal for the club beat Gianluigi Buffon via a deflection, his second was a majestic, curling shot which will cause manager Roberto di Matteo to ponder whether to shoehorn the 21-year-old into the team's attacking line-up.

But Juve, who won last season's Scudetto without losing any of their 38 matches, exemplified their resilience to halve the deficit through Arturo Vidal before Fabio Quagliarella equalised with 10 minutes to spare after John Terry carelessly attempted to play him offside..

Former Napoli forward Quagliarella also hit the crossbar after he levelled as once again Chelsea's flimsy defence was exposed.

Di Matteo's side have now conceded 11 goals in seven matches this season. Although their supposed miserliness was highlighted as significant in their European Cup win last season, they still conceded seven goals in their six knockout matches prior to the Munich final.
