A father-of-two is facing a backlash after admitting in a blog posting that he has a favourite child.
Buzz Bishop, a Canadian broadcaster and writer was explaining how he and his wife (then girlfriend) found themselves expecting their son Zacharie just two months into their relationship.
He wrote: “If I were to be absolutely honest, my older son is my favourite of the two. He and I are adventurous partners in crime, and I can’t imagine life without him. He was an accident waiting to happen and I’m so glad it did.”
Comments branding Bishop “insensitive”, "stupid" and "selfish", continue to pile in thick and fast, but he has also been praised for his honesty - with some fellow parents claiming Bishop's only error was to admit his feelings publicly.
As the storm began to gain pace, Bishop added: “Yes, I have a favourite son and I’m not ashamed to admit it. I’m guessing you could look deep in the mirror and admit you have a favourite too.
“My choosing Zacharie as my favourite is not about ‘playing favourites’ or ‘preferential treatment when I’m parenting. I don’t let Zacharie get away with anything because he’s my first pick, I just..y’know..like him better.”
He told The Star: “I’m sure my kids will read it and, hopefully, come at it from the perspective of (living) a life with me.
“I don’t ... shun my younger son. I may say I like Zacharie a little more, but it doesn’t mean I love Charlie any less.”
And he’s sticking to his guns, crediting Jezebel with being the only outlet that “really gets where I’m coming from”.
