Madonna Calls Barack Obama A 'Black Muslim' On Stage (VIDEO)

WATCH: Is Madonna A Birther?

Sales of Madonna's latest studio album could spike in Texas after the singer called President Barack Obama a "black Muslim".

In a video posted on YouTube, the "Like A Virgin" singer is seen on stage delivering an odd political rant on freedom, musing on how "amazing and incredible" it is that "we [America] have an African-American in the White House ... we have a black Muslim in the White House".

It appears the ageing entertainer was intending to be ironic, adding: "It means there is hope in this country, and Obama is fighting for gay rights, so support the man."

When questioned about the incident later, the 54-year-old, said: "I know Obama is not a Muslim - though I know that plenty of people in this country think he is. And what if he were?"

"The point I was making is that a good man is a good man, no matter who he prays to. I don't care what religion Obama is - nor should anyone else in America."

Donald Trump - thumbs up from the "Birther-in-Chief"

Obama's tenure in the White House has been blighted by right-wing innuendo suggesting the President was everything from a secret Muslim to a gay communist fifth columnist bent on the downfall of the United States.

The birthers, a fringe sect of the Tea Party that fervently believes Obama was not born in the US and is therefore not eligible to be the Commander-in-Chief, has gained plenty of media attention since 2010, with former Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump one of its leading, high-profile advocates.

Obama, who is a Christian, will contest the US election against Mitt Romney on the 6 November.
