Dead Or Alive 5 Developer: Fans Complained Breasts Were Too Small, So We Made Them Bigger

Game Developer Makes In-Game Breasts Larger After Fans' Angry Demands

Pretty much since the inception of the genre, fighting games have featured female pugilists with large breasts, skimpy outfits and implausibly toned physiques.

Still, in recent years there have been calls to tone down the sexuality, and find a way to deal with the awkward visual of male-on-female violence that the games portray.

Except, it seems, from some of the genre's fans.

The director of the new fighting game Dead Or Alive 5, Yohei Shimbori, said in a recent interview that after a demo of the title was released, fans wrote in to complain that the female characters' breasts weren't large enough.

So there was only one thing to do...

"We were getting feedback from the overseas offices to tone down the sexuality," he told Gamasutra in the interview.

"[But] we actually got a lot of feedback from people who were playing it, saying, 'We want bigger breasts. Make the characters more like that.' That was kind of surprising."

Shimbori said the developers went along with the demands, because "there's nothing wrong with having beautiful characters".

"That's another layer of entertainment that there's a need for. If there wasn't a need for it, people wouldn't have responded to the alpha demo like they did, and send us feedback."
