FIFA 13: iOS Day One Sales Up 62%, 'Could Match Console Sales In Five Years'

EA: iOS FIFA 'Could Match Console Sales In Five Years'

While FIFA 13 has been a massive console success, EA Sports has said its iOS versions for iPad and iPhone are growing even more quickly - and could eventually overtake its premium bigger brother.

Day one sales of FIFA 13 on iOS were up 62% year-on-year, Mike McCabe, Head of Emerging Markets and New Platforms for the FIFA franchise at EA Sports, told the Huffington Post.

"It's been a really good start to the year, or to the operation of the game, we're looking to build on that," he said.

The trend is clear - iOS is racing to match console games in sales and revenue.

"I think if you look at the projected revenues for the mobile platform over the next five years and the projected revenues for console," McCabe said. "There will be a point of inflexion where both are the same size. None of us know when it's going to be.

"But we're very committed to both platforms and we see them both as integral to the future of the franchise and the company."

The success of the iOS FIFA 13 has led to speculation that the two titles will grow even closer together as the franchise develops.

EA has even looked at whether it could release a version of FIFA in which an iOS player will compete directly with console users.

"It's something we've looked at in great length, and we really struggle with it," McCabe said.

"Obviously - yes, we can do that. But the challenge is the finesse and the experience to tune that across those two platforms, we just haven't got there yet."
