Jimmy Savile Memorial Plaque Defaced After Sexual Abuse Allegations

Jimmy Savile Memorial Plaque Defaced

A memorial plaque commemorating Jimmy Savile's old house in Scarborough has been targeted by vandals who daubed 'paedophile' and 'rapist' across it in black marker pen.

The plaque, which reads: 'Sir Jimmy Savile OBE KCSH 1926 - 2011 Entertainer and Philanthropist lived her', was targeted last night shortly before the airing of an ITV documentary detailing claims from a number of women that Saville sexually abused them as youngsters.

Authorities removed the plaque shortly after the attack and security around the cemetery that holds the former TV star's headstone was being reviewed in anticipation of further attacks.

The statue of Savile has been at Scotstoun Leisure Centre since 1993. A spokesman for Glasgow Life, which operates the centre said: "Given the current controversy and the seriousness of the allegations, we thought it appropriate to move the statue at this time."
