American Tourist Opens Fire In Israeli Hotel, Kills One

UPDATE: Reported by the Jerusalem Post, the American tourist, who was working at the hotel, has been shot and killed by a couter terrorism squad.

An "American tourist" has opened fire at a hotel in the Israeli holiday resort of Eilat. One person has died, according to police. The victim is believed to have been a worker at the hotel.

Shots were fired while guests were dining. Soon after police arrived at the Red Sea resort.

Speaking to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, a guest at the hotel said: “We were in the dining room, and suddenly we heard shots fired. Both guest and hotel workers were very frightened. No one understood what was going on. Ten seconds later the dining room was blocked off and we were asked to go to our rooms and stay inside.”

Micky Rosenfeld, a spokesperson for the police, told the Associated Press that the suspect "fired a number of shots Friday morning at the Leonardo Club hotel in the Red Sea resort city".

Rosenfeld added that the gunman is still in the hotel, which has been surrounded by police units.

The identity of the suspect remains unknown but he is being reported as an American and a guest at the hotel.
