Empowering Women Over Lunch: Three Butterflies Event

HuffPost UK Lifestyle are really excited to be partnering with Womankind Worldwide's Three Butterflies second annual lunch event.

The organisation works to make a difference to women across the globe, fighting for gender equality in Zimbabwe, opposing trafficking in Peru and working to end female genital mutilation.

There will be a speech from Germaine Greer and entertainment from comedian Andi Osho, with guests including MP Lynne Featherstone and author Helen Fielding.

The Three Butterflies lunch event aims to provide a showcasing and networking opportunity for guests, including Womankind's partner organisations from Asia, Africa and Latin America.

"This is a stimulating, fun luncheon, and great opportunity to raise money and demonstrate your support for women worldwide!" said Pamela Watson, Trustee for Womankind Worldwide.

"I've supported Womankind Worldwide's important work for gender equality and ending violence against women since 1992 when I cycled alone across Africa and grew deep respect for Africa's extraordinary women!"

The lunch name, 'Three Butterflies', was inspired by the Mirabal sisters who were murdered in 1960 after bravely speaking out against the Dominican Republic's Trujillo regime, unable to ignore its horrors. The butterfly image and three sisters - Minerva, Maria Teresa and Patria - have become symbols of courage, dignity and strength for women worldwide.

The Three Butterflies lunch takes place at The Savoy Hotel, London on 9 November 2012. Tickets to the event are £175 and can be purchased on their website.
