Dad Injected Heroin Into Baby's Mouth As Revenge On His Ex

Winchester Crown Court/PA

A 45-year-old dad from Dorset has admitted injecting heroin into his baby daughter's mouth and trying to murder her mother.

Roger Weir of Poole shot his former partner Gillian Blackmore, 27, with a flare gun before attacking her with a meat cleaver in Eastleigh, Southampton, on 7 May. He told police officers that he had squirted the heroin into the 20-month-old baby's mouth to 'get at' Ms Blackmore.

The little girl was unharmed and spat out most of the drug.

Weir was said to have been left angry after learning that Gillian had a new boyfriend and told the police that he could not 'live with the thought of someone else raising my daughter'.

He went to Ms Blackmore's flat in Eastleigh on May 7 with a specially-adapted flare gun capable of firing bullets and told her 'I want you dead'.

He then shot her, beat her with a baton and attacked her with a cleaver.

Despite being injured and covered in blood, Ms Blackmore escaped and called for help.

When the police arrived, Weir was found locked in a room with the baby girl and was threatening to kill her.

In court, he admitted administering a noxious substance to the child, and the prosecution accepted he had acted in the 'in the heat of the moment' and had not wanted to murder her.

He pleaded guilty to attempting to murder Ms Blackmore.

The BBC report that Weir will be sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on Friday.
