Scarlett Johansson has taken a step back in time to the 1960s in a new trailer for Hitchcock.

The 2.36min trailer, the first to be released from the film, shows Johansson being viciously attacked in a Psycho-style shower scene - bloodcurdling screams included - in her role as actress Janet Leigh.

She is seen shielding herself as Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) lunges at her with a knife.

Dame Helen Mirren plays Hitchcock's wife Alma Reville in the film which tells the story of their relationship during the years when Psycho was being made, when we learn how it was Hitch's deceptively demure wife who suggested his shower victim got killed off earlier rather than later in the classic film.

Some of Psycho's most iconic moments are reproduced throughout the trailer.

Earlier this year, speaking about the legacy of Hitchcock, the BFI's Creative Director Heather Stewart said: "He was suspenseful, sexy, dangerous.

"From the very first shot of his very first film (The Pleasure Garden, 1926), he shows a girl's legs coming down a staircase. He's voyeuristic, tantalising.

"He understood that people always wanted more. You're safe watching it in the cinema, but he's playing with you from the go-get."
